Who We Are
Faith in the City is made up of a diverse group of individuals. We are young professionals, clergy, students, activists, and seekers. We are all united by a desire to explore our spirituality and impact our world. Below are a list of our founding members and other random introductions.
Founding Members
Nathan Hill is the administrator of the listserv and maintains this fabulous website. After graduating from Cameron University in Lawton, OK with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Nathan became part of Gethsemane Mission Year and works as an Agency Relations intern at the Capital Area Food Bank. He is a writer, filmmaker, songwriter, speaker, and "visionary". You can read more about Nathan's experiences here: www.disciplesx.com.
Chris Roach graduated from Chapman University (CA) with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. He is also part of Gethsemane Mission Year and interns at DC Habitat for Humanity. Chris has been a youth and young adult organizer for a long period of his life, through Boy Scouts and various campus activities. Chris is a political mastermind and plans to run for local or national office in Orange County, CA after his year in DC.
Elizabeth Kenyon hails from Adrian, Michigan. She spent time in mission across the world, including serving a year in Argentina at a runaway home for boys. Elizabeth plans to enroll in International Development at American University (or another university) as she contemplates her call to ministry in America and the world. She is fluent in Spanish and works with the Hispanic service at National City Christian Church. Elizabeth is also part of Gethsemane Mission Year and interns at Sasha Bruce Youthworks.
Matt Brouwer hails from Seattle, Washington and brings his poetry and wisdom to the table. With an English degree from Seattle Pacific University, Matt plans to write and engage the world on important issues of justice, compassion, and poverty. Among other things, he is also a bit of a freestyle rapper. Matt is an expert on the theology of gangsta rap and is considering remaining in the Washington DC area for further study and work. Matt is the fourth Gethsemane Disciple and interns at the Capital Area Food Bank.
Kate Ristroph is employed by the US Government in the Census Bureau. She is a graduate from Clemson University but originally hails from Louisiana. Kate is passionate about social justice and spirituality. She tries to attend a different church every Sunday in her pursuit for a great place to hang out.
Other Members
There are numerous other leaders in Faith in the City. Eventually, they will get their own paragraph. (Rev.) Laura Peck and Nathan Arico are a wonderul, newly engaged couple who are also strong leaders for our growing community. Laura is enrolled at Wesley Seminary, intent on becoming a radical, spiritual leader. Nathan, on the other hand, can do some amazing landscaping work and has uncanny skills at Trivial Pursuit. Others, such as Peter Nasuti, Adriane Williams, and Kim Johnson, also add their voice to the mix. Thanks for being leaders of this fine group.
We still need leaders in this growing group. Thanks to all of those who have been coming and those will take on leadership in the future. You rock!
